This one is for making gradient banding less visible. Can come handy for finishing touches with gradiented images. On most of them the gradients are not rendered smooth enough due to low colour depth and/or limitations of gradient rendering in general. As far as I can recall chrome often reduces the gradient steps as well as inkscape 0.48 only rendered 1024 steps on screen regardless how many gradient steps were actually added to the gradient definition.
